Brookgreen Gardens Silent Cities Excursions
Silent Cities
January 3 – March 4, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday
Travel on the Trekker down back roads and explore some of the cemeteries, the Silent Cities at Brookgreen. Walk through former slaves and plantation owners’ graveyards and hear about the historical burial customs of European and African origin. This is a two-hour excursion. Tickets are $15 in addition to garden admission and must be purchased at Keepsakes at least 10 minutes prior to departure time. Reservations are suggested, please call (843) 235-6042. In January, the excursions begin at 12 noon. In February and March, the excursions are offered at 10 a.m. and at 12 noon. Visitors who purchase tickets for this excursion will receive a special discount coupon for same-day purchases at Keepsakes.

Brookgreen Gardens Gullah Program Series
O, FREEDOM OVA ME!”
Wednesday, January 13 – March 3
Ron Daise, Brookgreen’s Vice President for Creative Education, presents a program at 1 p.m. in the Wall Lowcountry Center Auditorium of selected readings, songs and photographs from his book Gullah Branches, West African Roots. Following the themes of “Home,” “Horror,” “Heritage,” “Hope”, Daise informs about the journey of enslaved Africans to Gullah communities and about Gullah culture in a spellbinding and participatory presentation. Program is free with garden admission and is not available: February 3 and 10.

Brookgreen Gardens Fabric Art Exhibit
Fabric Art Exhibit
January 15 - March 15
The Fabric of a People: African-American Art, Experiences and Contributions, an educational exhibit will be offered by Zelda Grant, author and a self-taught fabric artist with an exceptional eye for colors, textures and designs. The exhibit will be open daily from noon – 4:30 p.m. in Learning Lab I at the Wall Lowcountry Center and is free with garden admission.

South Strand Wildlife and History Day at Huntington Beach State Park
Join us for a fun-filled day of natural and cultural history. The setting will be the courtyard of Atalaya a national historic landmark. A variety of agencies, organizations and exhibitors will present displays, tours and hands-on activities. Musical entertainment will be provided by Wendell Matthews. Local restaurants will be participating in a Taste of Murrells Inlet offering food for sale.

Race for the Inlet
Murrells Inlet 2020 presents the annual 5K Run-Walk-Bicycle event. It will be held rain or shine beginning and ending at the Murrells Inlet Waterfront at Morse Park Landing.

63rd Annual Plantation Tour
Advance ticket sales begin 2/1/10 and end 3/12/10 and can only be purchased by mail @ Mrs. Ashley Moody, 67 Fletcher Way, Pawleys Island, SC 29585. Tickets are $35 per day or a 2 day ticket for $60. Bag lunches are available each day for $5. Houses will be open from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm. Histories and maps showing the routes for the day are provided with the tickets.
